These are unprecedented times. In just a short while, the world has completely changed. Social life has, for the most part, been put on hold. There have never been public measures like this. Summer will soon be on the way and that means festival season. We have consulted experts, talked to artists. Today, the National Security Council decided that large gatherings are banned in Belgium until the end of August. It is going to have to be a summer without Graspop Metal Meeting. This is the only sensible decision. The news is no big surprise. It is pretty much as expected and we fully understand the reasons why. The health and safety of festival goers, artists, crew and volunteers will always be our top priority. Following the government’s guidelines. Taking responsibility. Caring for yourself and your loved ones. That’s what matters now. Our festival will take a break, the preparations will be stopped. But we will be back, in 2021 on 17, 18, 19 and 20 June.
Summertime. Festival time. Enjoying the unique festival atmosphere together with your friends. Dancing together. Singing together. Experiencing the most amazing concerts together. And that very togetherness is a problem. It is expected that the current measures can be scaled back by summertime. However, according to experts, it still would not be a good idea to bring large crowds together – with visitors from Belgium and often far beyond our borders – at our festivals.

The fact that we will have to go without Graspop Metal Meeting this summer is a big disappointment. For the fans who have been sharing the anticipation and excitement for months. But also, for our staff, suppliers, crew, artists, volunteers, and the local residents. An entire sector has been brought to its knees. Via trade associations and professional federations, specific support measures will be requested from the public authorities. We stand behind all such initiatives. We are currently exploring various options together with our ticket partner. Once the arrangement for ticket buyers has been finalised, information will be provided. First and foremost, to the ticket buyers themselves. Please keep in mind that this may take a few days still.

For now: stay at home, wash your hands, practice social distancing, take care of yourself and each other. Doctors, nurses, caregivers…. they are the heroes of the hour. They are giving their all for the sake of a better future. Thank and support them as much as you can.

We are looking forward to better days ahead. We are resilient. We are staying positive. We are going to get busy making plans for next summer. Because that’s when we want to be back. With the best festival ever.

Take care. See you next year.
